Day 4, the final day of the Florida Junior Olympics, was a great one!

After 4 long days in the “hot box” as they call the I-Drive Y, the athletes rose to the occasion. The final day’s competition began with 13-year-old Ariel Finke (SPA) blowing away the field and getting a Senior National cut in the meantime.  In the men’s division, Taylor Uselis (CAT) won the 1500 by about 10 seconds over SYS standout Patrick Wall.  In the 50 sprints, 13-year-old Michelle Turek went a 26 and change to win, and another 13-year-old, Caeleb Dressel,  won the men’s.  (By the way, what’s with the 13-year-olds beating the 14-year-olds?  Geez!)

All the Day 4 Results, including winners SYS’s Alexandra Atkins, SWIM’s Jason Tillitson, SPAC’s Sherridon Dressel, CCS’s Hanna James, SYS’s Alexander Katz, SYS’s Nancy Hu, CAT’s Matthew Hirschberger, ATAC’s John Yambor-Maul, CAT’s Sydney Pickrem, TBAY’s Rasmus Skjaerpe and LRSA’s Luke Hanner are all in there.  Perhaps compare your times or your young athletes times with theirs!

Guess what? First timer, Mickey Kennedy of the Blue Dolfins, swimming his first Junior Olympics, won the consolations!  WOW!  What a fun time!

Spirit Award FINAL

A very close competition, but ATAC of Tallahassee, beat out PYP took the Spirit Award home with them this year!

ATAC wins Spirit Award

Team Champion

2010 Junior Olympic Long Course Team Champion Sarasota YMCA, (SYS), brings another Junior Olympic Championship home to Sarasota! (But my Blue Dolfins placed very well against some of the mega teams…our Boys Team took 4th while the Blue Dolfins finished 8th overall!)
